#1
Term
What is Kubernetes?
Definition
Kubernetes is an open-source container orchestration platform designed to automate the deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications. It groups containers into logical units for easy management and discovery.
#2
Term
What is a Kubernetes Pod?
Definition
A Pod is the smallest deployable unit in Kubernetes. It represents a single instance of a running process in your cluster. A Pod typically encapsulates one or more containers (e.g., Docker containers), storage resources, a unique network IP, and options that govern how the containers should run.
#3
Term
Describe the typical architecture of a Kubernetes Pod.
Definition
A Pod usually contains one primary application container. It can also include "sidecar" containers that augment the primary application, such as logging agents, monitoring agents, or data synchronization services. All containers within a Pod share the same network namespace, IP address, and IPC namespace, and can share storage volumes.
#4
Term
List the main Pod lifecycle states.
Definition
The main Pod lifecycle states are:
  • Pending: The Pod has been accepted by the Kubernetes system, but one or more of the container images has not been created or configured.
  • Running: The Pod has been bound to a node, and all of the containers have been created. At least one container is still running, or is in the process of starting or restarting.
  • Succeeded: All containers in the Pod have terminated successfully, and will not restart.
  • Failed: All containers in the Pod have terminated, and at least one container has terminated in failure (i.e., it exited with a non-zero exit code).
  • Unknown: For some reason, the state of the Pod could not be obtained. This is typically due to an error in communicating with the node where the Pod should be running.
#5
Term
Provide a basic YAML manifest example for a single-container Pod.
Definition
yaml12 lines
apiVersion: v1
kind: Pod
metadata:
  name: my-nginx-pod
  labels:
    app: nginx
spec:
  containers:
  - name: nginx
    image: nginx:latest
    ports:
    - containerPort: 80
#6
Term
What kubectl command is used to create resources from a YAML file?
Definition
The kubectl apply -f <filename.yaml> command is used to create or update Kubernetes resources defined in a YAML or JSON file.
#7
Term
How do you list all Pods in the current namespace using kubectl?
Definition
Use the command kubectl get pods. To see more details, including the node they are running on, use kubectl get pods -o wide.
#8
Term
How do you view the logs of a specific container within a Pod using kubectl?
Definition
Use kubectl logs <pod-name> [-c <container-name>]. If there's only one container in the Pod, -c is optional. For continuous logging, use kubectl logs -f <pod-name>.
