#1
Term
Platform as a Service (PaaS)
Definition
A cloud model where Azure manages the underlying OS, hardware, and infrastructure, allowing developers to focus solely on building, deploying, and managing applications (e.g., Azure App Service, Azure SQL Database).
#2
Term
Shared Responsibility Model
Definition
A cloud security framework where security responsibilities are divided between the cloud provider and the customer. The customer is always responsible for data, devices, and accounts, while the provider handles physical infrastructure.
#3
Term
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
Definition
A cloud computing model providing maximum control over hardware, where the user rents virtualized servers, network infrastructure, and storage (e.g., Azure Virtual Machines, Azure VNets). You manage the OS, runtime, and apps.
#4
Term
Software as a Service (SaaS)
Definition
A cloud delivery model providing end-user applications hosted and managed entirely by the vendor over the internet on a subscription basis (e.g., Microsoft 365). The customer only manages user access and configuration.
#5
Term
CapEx vs. OpEx
Definition
CapEx (Capital Expenditure): Upfront spending on physical infrastructure (servers, datacenters) with high initial costs and depreciation over time.
OpEx (Operational Expenditure): Paying for products/services as you use them (Pay-As-You-Go), with no upfront hardware cost.
#6
Term
Public, Private, and Hybrid Cloud
Definition
  • Public Cloud: Owned by third-party provider (Azure); resources shared via internet.
  • Private Cloud: Dedicated infrastructure used exclusively by one organization.
  • Hybrid Cloud: Combines public and private clouds, allowing data/apps to be shared between them.
#7
Term
Azure Management Groups
Definition
Containers that help manage access, policies, and compliance across multiple Azure subscriptions. Hierarchy: Management Groups → Subscriptions → Resource Groups → Resources.
#8
Term
Azure Resource Groups
Definition
Logical containers into which Azure resources (VMs, DBs, VNets) are deployed and managed. All resources in a group should share the same lifecycle, allowing easy bulk management and deletion.
